First up, thanks to everyone for the congratulations. It was awesome to be bouncy and happy and have you guys be bouncy and happy with me.
And now, before I go get ready for a day of fun and excitement, some job details.
I'll be working for the fine folks at Netflix, in their tech support department for many issues but primarily the "Watch Instantly" feature.
Now I know the first thing many of you are thinking yourselves: "Good god, Jet Wolf. Customers AGAIN?" And you'd have a point. But there's a whole lot more to it.
- Environment. Have you ever read about the cool stuff at Google corporate? It's not quite that cool, but it's way closer to Google than anything I've ever personally been part of. It actually looks like a fun place to work.
- Distance. The place is five minutes from home. My last crap job? An hour and a half. If traffic sucked slightly less than usual.
- Pay. The starting pay rate is ... wow. Wow. And I'll get pay differential for working nights and weekends too. And with that gravy money coming in (as my paycheck will be rich, full-flavoured gravy), a house isn't just an abstract idea any more. Plus I'll be able to save up a bit to hit school for a Bachelors, if I want.
- Opportunity. The Watch Instantly feature looks to be just the beginning of where Netflix wants to go with entertainment distribution, particularly digitally. I'm really excited to be in on the ground floor of some of that.
- Time. This will actually introduce some muchly needed extra structure in my day. If history is any example (and it usually is), this will lead to much more creative productivity from me. I swear, I never write more and better than when I actually have to make special time for it.
- Perks. Massive, extremely generous benefits package ... including free Netflix. The eight-at-a-time deal too, which is actually bordering on the ridiculous, but in a happy way.
I start Wednesday with training. It'll be weird to be working again ... but a good weird.
Very excited. :)

You mention working nights & weekends. Do you have a set schedule at this point, or do you play it by ear?
Having fun shoveling in the gravy!
But yeah, pretty excited. :)
At the end of it all, it's a day job to give me money while I write. If I can get a LOT of money doing it, plus have as much fun as possible in a cool environment, I don't see a bad here.
But hey, thanks for trying to burst my bubble, appreciated. ;)
(Seriously, I am glad you're getting a job you wanted. I just keep thinking about OSB and how incredibly stupid humanity can be most of the time...)
Customers or not - Right on. You go with that gravy.
(i was going to go with something like "you go girl get your gravy on" but it sounded horribly valley girl and, well. awkwardly incorrect.)
(but seriously, please do. congratulations again :))
Sounds like a pretty specific job, so hopefully it won't have a lot of random stupid customer headaches.
And maybe yay for seeing some more of Chosen. /end totally self-centered thought
